West Village, NYC
It wasn’t a wedding, but it was an AMAZING, surprise celebration!
To say I was surprised is a big understatement. Harry (and friends) planned a surprise graduation party for me last Saturday night that made me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who came. And everyone who wanted to come. Thank you for celebrating with me.
Moments before I walked into the bar, I wasn’t in the best mood. (My brother will say this is also an understatement). As I walked down the street I asked my brother why we were taking my parents to another bar. Didn’t they want to go home? We had a plan to see Lilly tomorrow, why did my mom want to see her tonight? I was tired. And as family visits sometimes go, I was a little stressed about all the coordination and merging of worlds. My brother told me to relax and I snapped back: “Stop patronizing me.”
We rounded a corner inside the crowded bar and I spotted Lilly. After that I don’t remember too much. I think I momentary blacked out and recovered just as I spotted my 6th grade history teacher’s husband. I mustered a quiet: “No way.” I didn’t even hug Harry. I hope he could see all the happiness and shock in my expression. (And I will say what I should have said then: Thank you Harry. I love you.)
I made eye contact with my brother and realized the irony of our conversation moments earlier. He shook his head and laughed.
It took several minutes for me to soak it all in:
Lilly taking pictures of me.
The koozies exclaiming “schools out forever.” (Thanks Lil!)
Hugs from friends from all part of my life (Grad School, Princeton, Nickelodeon, WEbook, Harry’s friends who have become my friends, Dinner Club, My First (and only) Carpool, Middle School, High School….)
My co-worker Nystrom said it best as he gave me a bear hug: Katie Krum, you are a very rich person. As the night started to slow down, I sat on some couches with friends and wished I could relive it all over again. I’ve heard friends say that about their wedding…it just goes so fast. I didn’t even want to go to the bathroom I was having so much fun.
Thank you Harry. Thank you Lilly. Thank you Mom, Dad, Clayton and Sarah. Thank you Dinner Club. Thank you friends. Thank you. I just can’t say it enough. Check out the photos from the party.
